The Biography of a Black Forest Organ Clock
Richard Constable
Richard is a descendant of Black Forest clock and watchmakers and has researched their lives, work and trade for many years. Musical clocks are one of his special interest topics. His talk will focus on a single clock, that was ordered new by an Anglo-Welsh family in the 1830’s and is currently being restored for its sixth-generation owner in the same family .Besides telling the time, it should again be able to play its original repertoire of forty eight short music pieces. What stories of its life, could this extraordinary survivor tell us? Richard will look in turn at the family stories of the clock’s owners, makers and likely retailers, to reconstruct the clock’s own biography of its first two centuries.
